What is Clinical Studies Sweden?
Clinical Studies Sweden is a national collaboration between Sweden’s six healthcare regions, supported by the Swedish Research Council. We develop and provide support for those conducting clinical studies within the healthcare system.
Our mission
The mission of Clinical Studies Sweden is to improve the conditions for conducting clinical studies within Swedish healthcare. Through our work, we contribute to enabling more high-quality clinical studies – both academic and industry-sponsored – across the country.
To achieve this, we:
- serve as a national entry point for support and contact for researchers, research staff and life science companies
- increase awareness of clinical studies and the importance of research within healthcare
- participate in national and international collaborations that strengthen the conditions for conducting clinical studies
This contributes to Sweden’s competitiveness as a life science nation and increases opportunities for patients across the country to participate in clinical studies.
What we offer
Clinical Studies Sweden provides support and services that make it easier to plan and conduct clinical studies.
- Support and services for planning and conducting clinical studies within healthcare
- A national entry point for life science companies seeking to develop products in collaboration with healthcare
- Training in clinical research methodology and regulatory requirements
What we aim to achieve
Vision
Clinical Studies Sweden works towards the vision that clinical studies are an integrated part of healthcare. This generates new knowledge, gives more patients the opportunity to participate in studies and contributes to better healthcare and health outcomes.
Mission statement
Through national collaboration, we develop and provide support for conducting clinical studies throughout Sweden. We contribute to tomorrow’s healthcare and treatments through collaboration between healthcare, academia and industry.
How we work
Focus areas
We conduct work within several focus areas that are important for enabling high-quality clinical studies throughout the country.
Needs are identified through dialogue with healthcare, academia, authorities and life science companies and form the basis for our national initiatives.
Working groups and projects
Through national working groups and projects, we bring together experts from across the country to investigate key issues and develop shared structures, standards and support.
The outcomes of these initiatives include:
- Research support and services
- Harmonised and efficient ways of working
- Increased knowledge and quality in the conduct of clinical studies
Many of our completed projects are presented here on the website.
Our organisation
Clinical Studies Sweden is a national collaboration between Sweden’s six healthcare regions. Together, we form a national research infrastructure that facilitates the conduct of clinical studies within healthcare.
The collaboration combines national coordination with regional anchoring through regional nodes. This enables us to provide harmonised and equivalent support throughout the country based on the expertise and conditions available across Sweden.
Our staff have extensive experience in clinical research from academia, healthcare and life science companies.
Regional nodes
Clinical Studies Sweden consists of six regional nodes – one in each healthcare region. The nodes are organisationally integrated within the healthcare system and serve as regional contact points for clinical studies. Together, the nodes form a shared national research infrastructure.
The regional nodes provide support and guidance for those conducting clinical studies within healthcare. On each node’s website, you can find information about the support available throughout the research process – from idea to archiving. Information is also available about training, clinical trial units and other support offered by the node.
Governance and organisation of Clinical Studies Sweden
